IS STRESS AN INEVITABLE GROWTH FACTOR?

We started our day at the office with a “Morning- Stand-up call”, of course with a coffee or tea mug in our hands. When Mani started with a jovial topic that made everyone laugh at once. That was our “Good -Morning”!

The first thing that I like to observe before we talk about our tasks or status, is the smile on the face of our colleagues. Starting the day with a small smile or good laugh makes my day refreshing, a content feeling that we at Proiuvo can keep up with the stress-free work environment for every one of our colleagues.

In these days of fast-paced and modernised life, stress has become an integral part of personal and professional life. Corporateculture, policies, procedures, or repressive management that creates guidelines and procedures which could sometimes become an unhealthy work environment or lead to stress. Undue pressure of targets and deadlines affects the internal and external environment of the workplace alike. This is one thing we always wanted to avoid in Proiuvo.

In our opinion, an effective way of handlingstress with optimism, patience and diligence in such circumstances can provide motivation and overcome the hurdles with hope and positivity. We have been able to achieve a “happy employee” motto by ensuring our work routines include a few small activities that keep their spirits high and them happy.

Steps to overcome the stress in a workplace:

In today’s digital world there is an easy way to feel pressure to be available 24/7. A work-life balance has to be established by setting work-life boundaries and preferences right from checking the mail to answering a call at least during a meal. Though the preferences regarding the same differ, any attempt to reduce the realms between stress is the result of a work-life conflict.

We ensured, the shift timings are reasonable, flexible office work hours, and hybridwork culture to ensure their work-life balance is met. Overtime and working weekends were minimized to exceptional circumstances and on a rotation basis where needed.

A qualitative de-stressing phenomenon can be a socialising meeting, day out for luncheon meets, birthday celebrations of the staff, fun games in the board room etc. We followed this principle!

Fun Fridays and a few dinner events with all colleagues and their families were a way to encourage team building and a happy environment at Proiuvo.

Employeehealth and safety first, providing employees with a Care 360 plan which gives them access to Yoga sessions and encourages healthy habits is a way we chose to motivate employees to take care of themselves.

Well, if you think many employers are currently providing these facilities, I’d say yes probably as per policies, but for us, they are beyond just policies. Being a young company with employee numbers that can be easily monitored and taken care of, and ensuring these policies are truly effective.

What we believe should be measures that must be considered:

1. Being an exemplary leader:

The impact of management and their skills to deal with the stress of its workforce. A major cause of work-related stress affecting the employees of the organisation could be when a manager or their management exerts pressure be it due to the tight timelines of the project, or support contract conditions.

We encourage our Project and delivery managers to constantly motivate our employees with empathy. They are trained to manage both the client and employees in a happier way.

2. Lessened stress on the employees goes a long way in establishing their productivity and reducing absenteeism thereby a zeal to contribute.

Employers need to be feasible and reduce workplacestress through an improved workenvironment in all forms. An empowered employee alone can be an asset in increasing productivity. Hence, we avoid micromanagement and instead provide support to employees when they need it in times of pressure.

Effective stressmanagement management is the only way in breaking the vicious cycle of stress to make lives healthier, happier, and more productive. The resilience to hold oneself under pressure can be a positive factor to encounter every trouble with relative ease. This holds for managing any crisis in the professional arena.
